Can’t

Track Notes:
Another song where the lyrics are a mashup – this time of three different sets of lyrics, one penned by Bill, one by Joe, one by Jim. We’ll leave it to you to figure out who wrote what if you care to.

The song consists of three sections, repeated again and again. The main riff was dubbed “the thing that goes around and around again” by Mike during practice, and so that’s how it was written down when arranging the song.

That really weird oscillating sound you hear is a Flange effect put on the bass track, but run to its own input in the mixing console to keep both sounds distinct.

Lyrics:

I opened up the door to my soul
Exposed inner workings to your sun
But the weather often changes
(something)
Our victims are the remains
Of our own corrupted, broken dreams
We do our best to hide the pain
‘Cause life ain’t what it seems

Can’t find myself
All I see is you
Can’t find myself
Or even what is true

Our victims are the remains
Of our own corrupted, broken dreams
You went and quit what I had started
Is life a scary dream?
Driven by you to the extremes
Can’t even think of yesterday
An evil tease and yet much worse
With nothing more to say

Can’t find myself
All I see is you
Can’t find myself
Or even what is true

Can’t find myself, tell me what to do
Can’t find myself, hope to god we’re through

Why did I do that thing, for which I regret?
A bit of immortality that I’ll, I’ll never get
What, was it worth it? What was it all for?
A morsel of ecstasy and nothing more.

Where did you get the notion that we would fall for all your lies?
Spend your life like a dog and come out looking like a saint.

Well I tried my best, but did the worst.
Got trampled on by those who finished first.

Can’t find myself
All I see is you
Can’t find myself
Or even what is true

Cying for the life I killed can’t fret about the milk I spilled
Fall us or all the charade or become another tired cliche
Our victims are the remains of our own corrupted broken dreams
A pain for lust, a lust for pain, that bursts me at the seams

Can’t find myself
All I see is you
Can’t find myself
Or even what is true

Do you think the truth is too much?
Was there a plan to beat me down?

Can’t find myself
All I see is you
Can’t find myself
…what is true?

Can’t find myself, tell me what to do.
Can’t find myself, hope to god we’re through.

I can’t find myself.
Can’t find myself.
Can’t find myself.
Can’t find me!
