Civil Disobedience

Track Notes:
If you can’t tell by listening to it, this is a very Rage Against The Machine-influenced track. Bill’s just basically shouting the same thing over and over again, and the entire song is just one big reference to Henry David Thoreau’s essay, “Civil Disobedience.” Bill’s spoken word intro lets you know what you’re in for.
Lyrics:
(Spoken)
I heartily accept the motto, “That government is best, which governs least.” And I should like to see it acted up to more rapidly, and systematically.

Henry David had it right
When he said we had to fight
Against the system and its rules
When we serve as mindless fools.

The authorities don’t like
People thinking for themselves.
They’re easier to control
When they sit right on the shelf.

REPENT
They say when you do it your own way
REPENT
Your sin, it’s because you don’t fit in
REPENT
REPENT

Henry David had it right
When he said we had to fight
Against the system and its rules
When we serve as mindless fools.

The authorities don’t like
People thinking for themselves.
They’re easier to control
When they sit right on the shelf.

REPENT
They say when you do it your own way
REPENT
Your sin, it’s because you don’t fit in
REPENT
REPENT

Pretty soon you’re doing
What they want ya too
Thinking what they taught you
‘Cause it’s the “right thing” to do
Give into their idea of a man
Take originality
And throw it in the can

Henry David had it right
When he said we had to fight
Against the system and its rules
When we serve as mindless fools.
